A few weeks ago
I posted some pictures of jackets that I had bought in the US during the
Christmas holidays. I had an
overwhelming amount of comments, complete with advice and suggestions. Truly, I was delighted! It was rather like having my own personal
shopping service.
Top criticism
was the fact that I wore a string of pearls with a sequin jacket. Lordy!
How you all shrieked at that one!
I was suitably chastened, despatched the offending items to the back of
a drawer and frankly, was too afraid to wear any sort of neck adornment in the
following pictures for fear of causing further (constructive) criticism.
The first of my
jackets was the black and grey combo in the Chanel-esque style that I
favour. Suggestions from you all
included either a white or grey tee shirt.
I duly went forth and shopped! In
fact I scoured the shops in search of something that would fit the description,
but would be forgiving of the lumps and bumps which I wished to conceal. To my amazement, it was Next that provided
the answer with this chiffon mix top. Love this top! Just love it.
The perfect
Spring/Summer top for anyone with psoriasis.
Conceals perfectly, the chiffon section is dark enough to camouflage
psoriasis plaques and it has sleeves. Oh the joy! I plan to purchase in the blush colour
also. As an aside, for some curious
reason the website pictures show the back of this top rather than the
front. I’m not wearing it the wrong way
around, I promise!
So what do you
think? Have I got it right this time?
Then there was a
white sleeveless top, also from Next, that is just a useful little basic to
have in the wardrobe. My plan is to purchase a set of the Canopi arm covers in white, and when I do I have great hopes of wearing this top on its own. Of course the very day I post pictures of myself, is the day that I have to endure being side by side with a Next model. Great!
This is a
strange one. I think I like it, but I’m
not fully convinced. To be honest, I believe
it’s the jeans that cause the problem. In
my humble opinion, the white top would look much better if I had black skinnies
on, rather than regular denim. Just
saying …!
Next up was the
infamous sequin jacket. Here we go again
… but not a necklace in sight! I tried
this with a white top and you must trust me when I say it was awful. The impact of the Chanel type white piping
was lost and frankly, I wasn’t happy with the look. So I partially took your advice and paired it
with straight jeans. Does it work? I’m in two minds. Again, I think I prefer it with black
skinnies, but given the assurance of you all that denim was the way to go, I
deferred to your (better?) judgement!
For any of you who spend the summer months fruitlessly searching for tops with three-quarter sleeves, I would urge you to take a look in Next. Even since buying these tops a couple of weeks ago, the stock has changed again and they are awash with tops that are the right colour and the right sleeve length for anyone with a skin disorder. Just as importantly, many of them are very light which means you're not going to expire with heat during the summer months (oh, the optimism!)
Have a great weekend and talk on Monday.

Ive missed your last few fab posts as weve had poorly kids! Just catching up now! Love the skinny jeans on you - must admit they are my staple too.
ReplyDeleteHi Claire, sorry to hear that your children have been unwell. I hope they're on the mend now. Must admit the skinnies are still my favourite, although perhaps that's because we've all become so used to looking at them?
DeleteOops it was me who first mentioned the pearls - sorry,
ReplyDeletehope you weren't offended Helen.
I didn't know whether to say it or not,
now I'm not so sure I should have...
sometimes it's a bit difficult when you don't know the
person you are commenting on...
You look lovely in your outfits today and your tops are gorgeous.
I hope that you have a lovely weekend
and look forward to your next post.
x Fiona
Oh Fiona, I wasn't offended at all! Please don't think so ... by the end of the comments I was laughing out loud at the fact that the pearls had caused such a reaction! Thank you for your kind words .. and please keep commenting. Trust me! I'm delighted with all comments and on that particular post, they were particularly useful :)
DeleteI wouldn't be afraid to wear a necklace with the first jacket but it must be a statement necklace and a basic crew neck t-shirt. I like the first jacket with the grey top and the chanelesque one looks much better than it did! Well done honey, you look fab xxx
ReplyDeleteThanks Sharron. I agree with the necklace with the first ... just decided to play it safe today :)
DeleteI am a sucker for a long chain and I think you could get away with something simple with the grey t-shirt.I think you look great in all pics, I am especially fond of the last jacket

Thanks J. I too love a long chain .. will probably wear one with the grey top in future.
DeleteYou look lovely in all the photos Helen! I do agree with you that black skinnies would pair well with the sequin one:) I must have a look at that chiffon mix blush top in Next. Have a good weekend:)
ReplyDelete~Anne
Thanks Anne. Judging by the comments, I think the black skinnies will be worn with the sequins from now one!
DeleteLove love love the grey top with the jacket in the first pic - it's simply perfect! Don't like the white with it as much. And the black is perfect with the sequin one (without pearls - lol) and like Anne, I think yes to black skinnies - the blue jeans are not as nice with it. Loving all the photos-you look great. Enjoy the weekend, Avril x
ReplyDeleteThanks Avril. Hope you had a good weekend also
DeleteThe grey top is so lovely - I can see the dove-i-ness of it from here and I'm sure it brings out your eyes too. In the last photo, that black top looks modern and sexy with the sequins, black skinnies would look even sexier, or a skinny tuxedo pant.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your lovely comments. Glad that you agree with me re the black skinnies :)
DeleteHi there!! Really loving the grey top in the first picture, that's a great outfit choice and one of my favourite looks on you! I would also say the sequin jacket would pair better with black skinny jeans and it does look good with the black top too! Have a great weekend xx
ReplyDeleteThanks a million. Hope you had a great weekend too.
DeleteI agree with everyone - they've said everything that I think and you think. The grey top works great with the first jacket. Because both the jackets are on the black/grey side - black bottoms would be better hence the unanimous vote for black skinnys which are the most contemporary look. I would probably say, rather than the black ankle boots would a pair of killer heels work too? Or would that be exposing too much flesh on the foot? I like your second picture though - you look a minx with that smile :o)
ReplyDeleteThanks Sue. I'm sure killer heels would be great if I weren't so pathetic in heels .. if I go too high (which apparently isn't that high at all, lol) I am in danger of toppling over. Never mastered the art of tottering around on skyscraper heels I'm afraid.
DeleteAll the looks are great but I especially love the last one - the sequin jacket, black top and blue jeans - you look great!
ReplyDeleteThanks a mil, that's really nice of you. Helen
DeleteI like the grey a lot, but sort of love the white the most, too (I always love a white top, though). And p.s. I like the pearls with the sequins!
ReplyDeleteSsssshhh!!! You'll be thrown out of BlogLand if you say you like the pearls, lol!!! They were not a hit with the readers/followers at all, lol:)
